Pretoria, 19 June 2026 — The Cuban Ambassador, Fakri Rodríguez Pinelo, gave a lecture to mark the centenary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz. The event was attended by 78 young Africans from 21 countries, representing 43 organizations.
The event provided an in-depth analysis of Fidel’s ideas and legacy, whilst also serving as a forum for intergenerational exchange and reflection on the enduring relevance of the principles of international solidarity, anti-imperialism and social justice promoted by the Cuban leader.
“The Commander-in-Chief’s ideas continue to serve as a guide in the struggle for the sovereignty, dignity and development of our peoples,” stated the Cuban Ambassador. Attendees took part in a question-and-answer session and in organized presentations that highlighted the significance of the Cuban Revolution for the world as a source of inspiration in the struggle for independence and sovereignty.
The event was organized in conjunction with Pan Africanism Today.
