Thanks to Kenny MacAskill MP for being the 17th British parliamentarian to formally nominate Cuba's Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade for the 2021 #NobelPeacePrize.
In support of his nomination Kenny said:
"The Henry Reeve Medical Brigade embodies the vocation of medicine and the spirit of the revolution. Its medics show selfless conduct in the service of others and often at great risk to themselves. It deserves to be recognised for the good it does and the example it sets - humanity and medicine in essence and at its finest.
In the last nine months more than 4,000 Cuban medics have put their lives at risk to travel to 40 countries, to help care for coronavirus patients. In 2014, hundreds of Cuban medics also worked in West Africa during the dangerous Ebola outbreak. The history of the Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade is full of such stories of heroism and altruism.
Cuba’s medics are selfless yet contribute so much to world health. I believe their work should be recognised internationally and I fully support their nomination for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize.”
