19th European Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba takes place in Paris

Paris, November 22 - The 19th edition of the European Continental Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba will start today in this capital with around 280 delegates representing a hundred associations from more than 25 countries.

The two-day forum will be held at the headquarters of the French Communist Party and will be attended by solidarity, youth and women's organisations, political forces, trade unions and other social actors from the region.

At the meeting, participants will discuss the actions carried out and future actions in the fight against the economic, commercial and financial blockade that the United States has imposed on Cuba for more than six decades and its consequences, as well as the demand for the island's removal from the unilateral list of countries that Washington considers to be sponsors of terrorism.

Likewise, the delegates will analyse the communication work in support of the Antillean nation and its Revolution and the ways to strengthen economic cooperation in the current context of the tightening of the extraterritorial siege.

The Europe director of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Rigoberto Zarza, told Prensa Latina that expectations are high for the event, which has not been held since 2018 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and international tensions.

Zarza highlighted the large confirmed participation and the topics to be discussed at the forum, which will culminate tomorrow with a final declaration and a public act of solidarity with Cuba.

After the initial interventions in the plenary of the XIX Continental Meeting, the delegates will work in commissions.

One of the commissions will discuss communication issues, in order to continue accompanying the island on the virtual stage, while another will deal with economic cooperation, in a context characterised by the effects of the US blockade, said the ICAP director.
