We have hard work ahead of us, which implies facing the complex problems that the Cuban economy is going through, but we are convinced that we will have a better year, with the support of the people, highlighted Alejandro Gil Fernández, vice prime minister and head of Economy and Planning, by presenting the Plan of the economy for 2023 to the National Assembly of People's Power.
He announced that, for next year, a minimum growth of the Gross Domestic Product (at constant prices) of 3% is expected, based on the reactivation of national productive activities and a greater capture of foreign currency from exports.
He assured that there are conditions to achieve the proposed objectives, and that 2023 will be a better year, which is based on the control that Cuba has achieved over COVID-19, on the positive results of the recent international tours of the country's leadership, and in the growing interest of foreign business, despite the intensification of the US blockade.
On the first day of the Tenth Ordinary Period of Sessions of the National Assembly of People's Power, in its IX Legislature, the deputies also learned about the State Budget Law for next year, whose fundamental premise is the necessary reduction of the fiscal deficit, the containment of inflation and support for the principle of social justice, which translates into the financing of basic services in social sectors.
Other topics of interest analyzed by the parliamentarians were the recovery of the territory of Pinar del Río after the passage of Hurricane Ian; the situation of the National Electric Power System; compliance with Law No. 148 on Food Sovereignty, Food Security and Nutrition; the progress of the improvement of the retail trade of local subordination, and the fulfillment of the legislative schedule.
In addition, the decision to postpone the analysis of the Social Communication bill, based on the opinions received from the deputies and the short time available for its consultation and approval, was also reported.
Today's agenda includes the presentation of measures aimed at combating crime, corruption, illegalities and social indiscipline, as well as information on the country's demographic situation, both by the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz.
Likewise, the accountability of several entities will take place: the Council of State, the Ministry of Communications and the Comptroller General of the Republic.
The draft Law of the Comptroller General of the Republic of Cuba and the Superior Control System of Public Funds and Administrative Management will also be analyzed; of the Law of Expropriation for Reasons of Public Utility or Social Interest; Law of the Attorney General of the Republic; and the Livestock Promotion and Development Law.
