Belmopan, July 15, 2024.- On July 15, 1995, the governments of Cuba and Belize signed the establishment of diplomatic relations, thus marking a historic moment in the strengthening of the ties of friendship and cooperation between our governments and peoples.
With infinite humanism and sense of solidarity, more than 1 000 Cuban collaborators have provided their services in Belize since 1990 in the spheres of health, sports, construction and culture. Currently 88 health workers work together with their Belizean brothers in all districts of the country.
More than 250 young Belizeans have been trained as professionals in Cuba in the areas of health, sports, technical and pedagogical sciences. As part of our Caribbean family, they have had the opportunity to get to know the Cuban people and the reality of Cuba.
We have always received the solidarity and friendship of the people and government of Belize; we appreciate the selfless help we received in the most difficult moments of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as after the large fire at the Matanzas Supertanqueros base and later the passage of the powerful Hurricane Ian through our country.
We want to thank Belize for its support of the global demand to end the illegal and unjust economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America on Cuba, and the call to the US government to immediately remove Cuba from the spurious List of countries sponsor of terrorism of the State Department, measures that severely impact the development aspirations of our country and the well-being of the Cuban people.
During the official visit to Cuba, on April 27, 2022, Prime Minister John Briceño and President Miguel Díaz-Canel signed a Joint Statement expressing the will of Cuba and Belize to continue strengthening their bilateral ties in various spheres and ratified the historical relationships between our peoples and governments.
On February 12, 2023, during the official visit of President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, the first visit by a Cuban president to this nation, he expressed: “If something has distinguished our bilateral relations, it is that they have transcended diplomatic formalities to become bonds of truly brother peoples.”
Today we celebrate the 29th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Belize, which constitute an example of friendship and cooperation, demonstrating what brother peoples can achieve when they respect and complement each other.
! Long live the friendship between Cuba and Belize!
