Belmopan, July 15, 2025 – On July 15, 1995, the governments of Cuba and Belize signed the establishment of diplomatic relations, marking a historic moment in the strengthening of the ties of friendship and cooperation between our governments and peoples.
In these 30 years, our countries have implemented cooperation agreements in areas such as culture, education, health, sports, agriculture, climate change, and water resources, among others, which have contributed to fostering ties between our peoples.
Since December 8, 1990, when Cuban medical cooperation began in Belize, more than 1,000 Cuban collaborators have provided their services in this sister nation with infinite humanism and a sense of solidarity. Currently, 96 Cuban health collaborators provide their services in all districts of the country, together with their Belizean colleagues.
Tens of young Cubans have benefited from the English language development programs offered by the Regional Languages Center of the University of Belize, and more than 250 young Belizeans have received professional formation in Cuba in the fields of health, sports, technical sciences, and teaching, among others.
We have always received the solidarity and friendship of the people and government of Belize. We are grateful for the selfless assistance we received during the most difficult times of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as after the devastating effects of the adverse weather events that have impacted our country in recent years, which reaffirms the brotherhood and solidarity between our peoples.
We reiterate our gratitude for Belize's support for the global demand to end the illegal and unjust economic, commercial, and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba, and for the call on the U.S. government to remove Cuba from the State Department's spurious list of state sponsors of terrorism. These measures severely impact our country's development aspirations and the well-being of the Cuban people.
During the official visit of President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez on February 12, 2023, he stated: "If anything has distinguished our bilateral relations, it is that they have transcended diplomatic formalities to become bonds between truly brotherly peoples."
On the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Belize, we celebrate the excellent relations between our two nations, based on respect, mutual cooperation, friendship, and solidarity.
!Long live the friendship between Cuba and Belize!
