34th anniversary of Cuban medical collaboration in Belize is celebrated.

Belmopan, December 7, 2024.- The Altun Ha archaeological reserve, an important reference of the Mayan culture, was the venue for the national event for the 34th anniversary of Cuban medical collaboration in Belize.

On December 8, 1990, the first 25 Cuban health workers arrived in this sister country, fulfilling a program sponsored by the Pan American Health Organization and the governments of Cuba and Belize.
Dr. Luis Manet Lahera, on behalf of the collaborators, said that this day had a special significance because it also celebrated the 128th anniversary of the fall in combat of Lieutenant General Antonio Maceo and his assistant Captain Panchito Gómez Toro, as well as the 35th anniversary of Operation Tribute, events that exalt the noble internationalist work that our heroes in white coats have been developing for 34 years in this sister countrydeveloping our heroes in white coats in this sister Central American country.

Dr. María del Carmen Lozada Concepción, national coordinator of the BMC, took stock of the work carried out during the year 2024, highlighting the professionalism, dedication, love and dedication of our health personnel in terms of the public health they provide to the Belizean people.

Ambassador María Caridad Balaguer Labrada, in her concluding remarks, recognized the dedication and dedication of the hundreds of professionals who have served in this nation, the pride they feel for this beautiful human and solidarity work inherited from the example of Martí and Fidel towards the most dispossessed.

In their speeches, the speakers referred to the complex economic situation that our country is experiencing, which is worsened by the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed for more than 60 years by the U.S. government and which is aggravated by the inclusion of Cuba in the spurious and unitedlist of countries sponsoring terrorism, something that contradicts our country's solidarity in the international arena.

Present at the commemoration were Consul Gustavo Aguinaga Linares, Dr. Nilda Corría, Belizean health authorities and a representation of Cuban health collaborators, who once again reaffirmed the words of the Historical Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz when he said: "To be internationalists is to pay our own debts to humanity."
