56th Anniversary of the Playa Girón Victory Celebrated in Seychelles

Victoria, Apr 18 (Prensa Latina) Seychelles personalities, as well as Cuban collaborators and residents celebrated in this capital the 56th anniversary of the Playa Girón Victory, the acid test of the rising socialist revolution in Cuba.

They also celebrated the 55th anniversary of the creation of the Union of Young Communists and the 56th of the Organization of Pioneers José Martí, a source from the diplomatic headquarters told Prensa Latina.

The Revolution's work and the internationalist and solidarity formation inspired by its historic leader, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, was highlighted by the Cuban ambassador here, Juan Humberto Macías, during the meeting, described as a family reunion.

In mid-April 1961 U.S. aircraft masked by the insignia of the then nascent Cuban air force bombarded by surprise the military airports on the outskirts of Havana and Santiago de Cuba, the country's second most important city.

Fidel Castro warned that the aggression was the prelude to an invasion of mercenaries in the service of the United States, proclaimed the socialist character of the Revolution and ordered the national mobilization to face the attack.

The result of the attack in Playa Girón, defeated in less than 72 hours, is considered the first military defeat in Latin America of the United States, which years before with a similar operation had overthrown the progressive government of Jacobo Arbenz in Guatemala.
