The 60th anniversary of Cuban medical collaboration is celebrated in Seychelles.

Members of the Cuban Medical Brigade in Seychelles celebrated this Saturday the 60th anniversary of Cuban medical collaboration.

On behalf of the Seychelles Ministry of Health, Dr. Josapha Jouanneau, Principal Medical Officer (Community), congratulated the Cuban doctors and highlighted the important contribution of Cuba during more than 40 years of collaboration, which has allowed them to achieve high health indicators in their population. He also highlighted the role of Cuban professionals in supporting their health system during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

According to statistics cited by Dr. Jouanneau, Cuban doctors currently represent about 25 % of specialists working in primary health care and 30 % in secondary and tertiary care in hospitals.

For his part, Dr. Yoanny Berriel Muñoz, head of the Medical Brigade, referred to the main events and results achieved by the Cuban medical missions in these 60 years of history and ratified the Brigade's commitment to continue working together with the Seychellois doctors, nurses and health personnel, to continue providing a quality medical service to the population.

Also participating in the commemoration were Lindy Ernesta, Director General of Bilateral Affairs of the Foreign Ministry, Seychellois doctors, members of the Cuban diplomatic mission and a representation of Cuban residents and the Seychelles-Cuba Friendship Association (SECUFA).
