62 years of Cuba's victory at Playa Giron are remembered in Cyprus.

Nicosia, April 20, 2023 - Convened by the "Anagenisisis" Ayi Yianni Club of the city of Larnaca and the Cyprus-Cuba Friendship Association, on the evening of April 19, 2023, an act of homage and remembrance was held for the 62nd anniversary of the first great defeat of Yankee imperialism on the sands of Playa Giron.

During the emotional act, in which a hundred friends of solidarity participated, a small material of the ICAIC News about the epic of Giron and how in less than 72 hours the enemy was defeated by the Cuban people was shown.

In his opening remarks, Mohammed Shaaban, president of the "Anagennisisis" club, reminded those present of Cuba's inspiration as a beacon of dignity and international solidarity. At the same time, he showed how the events of the Bay of Pigs transcend Cuban history.

For his part, Cuban Ambassador Angel Gustavo Suárez Cordero highlighted the historical importance of the Victory of the Bay of Pigs and how the month of April has marked the events of the Cuban Revolution. The Ambassador thanked all the participants for their permanent expressions of support and solidarity with Cuba throughout the years.

Those present were able to enjoy a Cuban Cypriot night, enlivened by the duo of Savvas and Chara, who sang typical Cypriot songs and could not miss "Hasta Siempre, Comandante". Outside the Club there was also an exhibition of photographs of the Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz. 

Present at the meeting were Chrystalla Antoniou, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of the AKEL Provincial Committee in Larnaca, Skevi Koukouma, Secretary General of POGO, Andreas Pasiourtides, AKEL deputy of Larnaca, Vera Polycarpou, Secretary of the Cyprus Cuba Friendship Association and Head of International Relations of AKEL, Athos Kazantzis, representing the Municipality of Larnaca, and Stavros Agathou, Head of International Relations of EDON (EmbaCuba Cyprus).
