Cuban culture once again occupies a place of honor on the international stage, thanks to the recent award given to Acosta Danza as Best Medium Format Company at the prestigious UK National Dance Awards 2024, organized by the UK Dance Critics' Circle Dance Section.
This important recognition confirms the excellence and international projection of the company, founded and directed by the outstanding principal dancer Carlos Acosta, who has been able to combine classical technique with the expressive power of Cuban and contemporary roots in each production.
The company was selected among several applicants for its sustained and high quality participation on the British stage, consolidating its presence in the demanding British cultural scene. This is not the first time that Acosta Danza has been recognized in these awards: in 2021 it was recognized as Best Independent Company and in 2023 it was also nominated in the Medium Format category.
This award not only recognizes the talent and dedication of its dancers and artistic team, but also highlights Acosta Danza as one of the most outstanding ambassadors of Cuban culture internationally, proudly bringing our traditions, creativity and stage innovation to diverse and demanding audiences.
The UK National Dance Awards, organized annually by the Critics' Circle - which brings together over 60 dance writers and specialists - are the only awards judged by professional dance critics. Their aim is to celebrate the vitality and diversity of dance in the UK and to recognize companies that have made an artistic difference to the season.
From the Cuban Embassy in the United Kingdom, we warmly congratulate Acosta Danza and its director, Carlos Acosta, for this well-deserved recognition, which raises the name of Cuba in the world of art and dance.
Congratulations for continuing to take Cuban dance to the top!
