Advisor of Cuba’s World Economy Research Centre (CIEM), gave a lecture on "The performance of the Cuban economy and its prospects".

With the presence of the Cuban Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Bárbara Montalvo, on 9 March at the UNITE headquarters in London, academician José Luis Rodriguez, advisor of Cuba’s World Economy Research Centre (CIEM), gave a lecture on "The performance of the Cuban economy and its prospects".

Accompanied in his presentation by academicians Emiliy Morris, associate researcher of the University College of London and Tobias Franz, professor of Economics at SOAS University, Rodriguez explained the complex scenario in which Cuba is developing its economy at present, under the conditions imposed by the US government blockade. Similarly, he spoke about the process of economic restructuring of the country, the challenges with regard to its food security, energy supply and the development of its main production lines. In debate with the audience, Rodriguez also analyzed the cooperation with China, the price system, the tourism sector and renewable energies, among other aspects, always highlighting socialism as the only system that will provide the solution to the different problems of Cuban society.
