The Tehran Mayor's Office convened its traditional annual tree planting ceremony to contribute to the reforestation of the city and its surroundings, in which representatives of the Bolivarian Alliance for Peoples of the Our America- Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) were present.
The official ceremony was chaired by the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran, Ali Larijani, and the Mayor of Tehran, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and was attended by City Council officials and members of the accredited Diplomatic Corps.
The Tehran Mayor's Office intends to plant a total of 80,000 tree stumps in the capital and its surroundings during the coming years to combat phenomena which affect it such as pollution and dust storms.
This ceremony inaugurated a forest park of 10 thousand hectares located in the northeast of the city. Immediately after Larijani and Ghalibaf planted the first tree in the place, the diplomats planted tree stumps on behalf of their countries. The Ambassadors of Nicaragua and Cuba and officials of the Embassies of Venezuela and Bolivia did so on behalf of ALBA-TCP.
