Ambassador of Cuba denounces intensification of US blockade on Vincentian radio station.

Kingstown, February 17, 2026 - The ambassador of Cuba in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Carlos Ernesto Rodríguez Etcheverry, participated in the program "Voices" of WE FM 99.9, where he offered a comprehensive intervention on the current situation of the island, among other topics.

During the interview, the diplomat denounced recent measures taken by President Donald Trump’s administration to further intensify the US economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba. He pointed out that these actions aim to stifle the Cuban economy, create greater difficulties for the people, affecting strategic sectors such as energy, transport and health, and provoke a situation of internal destabilization in Cuba.

The ambassador explained that Cuba currently faces a complex situation marked by fuel shortages, which directly affects the daily development of the country, the functioning of services and productive activity. He stressed that this reality is not the result of internal inefficiencies, but rather of increased sanctions and constraints imposed on the acquisition of resources in the international market.

Likewise, Rodríguez Etcheverry addressed historical aspects linked to the resistance of the Cuban people, highlighting the ability of the nation to overcome adversities throughout more than six decades of blockade. It also shared elements of Cuba’s cultural wealth; its tradition of solidarity and the achievements achieved in areas such as education and health.

At another moment in the program, the ambassador highlighted the excellent state of bilateral relations between Cuba and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, based on mutual respect, cooperation and solidarity. He thanked the historical support of the Government and the people of Vicenza in defending Cuban sovereignty and reiterated the willingness to continue strengthening ties for the benefit of both nations.

The participation of the Cuban mission chief in "Voices" allowed to bring to the audience from Vicenza a direct view about the Cuban reality and reaffirmed the bonds of friendship that unite both peoples (Embassy of Cuba to St. Vincent and the Grenadines/Cubaminrex).
