London, May 19, 2022- During a meeting with the member of the British Parliament, Navendu Mishra, the Ambassador of Cuba, Bárbara Montalvo Álvarez, had the opportunity to exchange with the Secretary General of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M ), Sitaram Yechuri, who is visiting London.
The head of the Cuban Mission recalled the close ties of friendship of the Secretary General of the CPI-M with the Cuban people and his meetings with the Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz. Likewise, she thanked him for his heartfelt words before the death of the leader of the Revolution and the permanent solidarity of the CPI-M with the Island. The occasion was also propitious to comment on current Cuban issues.
For his part, Yechuri highlighted "the special ties of fraternity and solidarity" between the CPI-M and the Communist Party of Cuba that date from the first years of the triumph of the Revolution. He recalled how his party has accompanied and supported Cuba in complex moments, mentioning in particular the shipment of a food sent in the 1990s and the recent aid to contribute to facing the Covid-19 pandemic. He highlighted the work of the Cuba Solidarity Campaign in the United Kingdom, which has been an inspiration for the solidarity movement in India.He took the opportunity to ratify his rejection of the blockade imposed by the U.S. and Washington's interference in Cuba's internal affairs.
Labor parliamentarian Navendu Mishra, who is also Vice President of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Cuba, reiterated his rejection of Washington's unilateral measure, agreeing that "it affects all areas of Cubans life." He added that the British government supports relations and dialogue with Cuba, mentioning the visit of His Royal Highness, Prince Charles, to Havana and the message of thanks to Cuba from the then Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Dominic Raab, for allowing the docking of the cruise ship MS Braemar.
