Roseau, Dominica, January 19th, 2022. A fruitful meeting was held by the Ambassador of Cuba in Dominica, Ulises Arranz Fernández, with the Minister of Health, Wellness and New Investment in Health, Honorable Dr. Irving McIntyre. The meeting, which took place in the Minister's office, was also attended by the Parliamentary Secretary in that Ministry with responsibility for Community and Home Care, Honorable Kent Edwards; the Permanent Secretary Mrs. Letitia Lestrade-Wyke and the Head of the Permanent Brigade of Cuban Health Collaborators, Dr. Francisco Sánchez Martínez.
During the meeting, various topics of interest to both parties were discussed, related to health care for the Dominican population, as well as those related to the new cooperation agreement on health, signed on April 28th, 2021 and in force for 3 years. It was verified that the agreement is fulfilled satisfactorily.
The number of members of the cuban health brigade in Dominica has been increasing systematically. Currently there are 92 collaborators who are present in primary care in 6 of the 7 health districts in which the country is divided and in specialized care in Roseau and Portsmouth Hospitals; as well as in the battle against COVID-19, in which these collaborators participate together with Dominican health personnel and paramedics.
