The new ambassador of Cuba in Ulan Bator, Mr. Jorge Ferrer, met with the Director General of the Department of Multilateral Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Davaasuren Gerelmaa, to exchange views on issues of mutual interest regarding international organizations.
He congratulated Mongolia for recent new successes of its diplomacy: the election of this country for the first time, in the person of the former Foreign Minister and current Member of Parliament Ts.Munkh-Orgil as a member of the U.N. International Law Commission (ILC) for the term 2023-2027, and also for the election of the country as a member of the Intergovernmental Council of the UNESCO International Programme on Development of Communication (IPDC) that promotes the development of mass media in developing countries.
He also praised it for its recent accession to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), becoming the 57th State party.
He reiterated the deep gratitude of Cuba for the sustained and traditional position of Ulaanbaatar in the United Nations General Assembly and other international forums in support of the island against the economic, commercial and financial blockade of government of the United States, as well as for the valuable support of Mongolia to various Cuban initiatives at different U.N. forums.
For her part, the Director General of Multilateral Cooperation thanks Cuba for its appreciated backing to various very important Mongolian social and economic initiatives at the United Nations related to literacy, women and cooperatives.
Both sides agreed in the importance of these exchanges and expressed satisfaction for the mutual cooperation in multilateral organizations, as Non Aligned Movement countries.
