Canberra, 17 May, 2023 - The Ambassador Tanieris Diéguez presented the Letters of Credence, in a solemn ceremony before the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, His Excellency David John Hurley, confirming her as an Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to Australia.
During the meeting, the Ambassador highlighted the good state of bilateral relations between the two nations and thanked Australia for its position against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the U.S. government on the island.
Likewise, the Cuban diplomat expressed her willingness to work to boost economic, trade and cooperation relations in areas of common interest.
The Governor, for his part, agreed on the good state of relations between both peoples, as well as on the common elements that both countries have which offer the possibility of expanding bilateral relations particularly in the field of education.
The solemn ceremony took place at the Government House. The Ambassador was accompanied by members of the Cuban Embassy to the Commonwealth of Australia. On the Australian part, Linda Hurley, wife of the Governor General, Tim Yeend, Assistant Secretary to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ian McConville, Chief of Protocol of the Australian Foreign Ministry, among other officials, were also present in the ceremony.
