The Cuban Ambassador to the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Angel Gustavo Suárez Cordero received on March 12, 2023, at the Embassy headquarters, the Chief Scientist of Research, Innovation and Technology of the Government of Cyprus, Mr. Demetris Skourides.
During the friendly meeting, among other topics, Cuba's progress in biotechnology was discussed. The Cuban diplomat stressed that despite the blockade imposed by the US against Cuba, the results are encouraging and in this sense the vaccines created by Cuban scientists against COVID19, the revolutionary Cuban vaccine against lung cancer CIMAVAX and the treatment against diabetic foot ulcer HEBERTProP stand out. The Cuban Ambassador also handed over the Call for the international event BioHabana 2024 which brings together experts from science, medicine, biotechnology and industry in Havana, Cuba, from 1-5 April 2024.
For his part, Mr. Skourides highlighted the Government Plan for the development of Research, Innovation and Technology in Cyprus and with it the country's facilities and opportunities for foreign companies. He expressed the opportunities for collaboration between the two countries (EmbaCuba Cyprus).
