AMBASSADOR OF CUBA RECEIVED BY THE DIRECTION OF THE NEWSPAPER "THE VINCENTIAN"

The Ambassador of Cuba in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Vilma Reyes Valdespino, was received by the Ms. Desiree Richards, Director of the national newspaper "The Vincentian" and Mr. Cyprian Nehall, Editor of the newspaper.

During the fraternal meeting, the Cuban diplomat updated the direction of the newspaper on themes related with the bilateral collaboration, such as the 9 scholarships of higher education granted to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines during the present year; the work of the Cuban medical Brigade and the future incorporation of another 21 doctors to provide services at the Center of Integral Diagnosis (CDI) under construction in Georgetown; the arrival in Saint Vincent of the medical equipment, donated by Cuba to the CDI; the application of the Cuban medicine Heberprot-P; the willingness of the two countries to continue working in the field of artificial insemination of cattle and the participation of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in the 34th Edition of the International Fair of Havana.

The topic of the U.S blockade against the largest island of the Greater Islands, occupied a special place in the conversation. The diplomat referred to the report, recently presented by Cuba on the resolution " the need to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the U.S of America against Cuba", and explained that the policy of the American blockade still persists, despite the restoration of  diplomatic relations, of the reopening of the embassies of Cuba and U.S in the respective capitals and of gestures such as the exclusion of Cuba from the list of States that sponsor terrorism, which it never has.

The ambassador, who delivered a copy of the report to the interlocutors, said that, as before, Cuba, cannot export products and services towards USA, receive investments from U.S. in most sectors of the economy or make payments or deposits in dollars U.S. in third countries. She said, in addition that, despite the restoration of regular flights between the two countries, the American tourists is not part of the 12 categories of travelers that U.S. laws allow to travel to Cuba.

The direction of “The Vincentian” expressed their rejection of the U.S blockade against Cuba and expressed their satisfaction at the annual support of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to the Cuban resolution in United Nations.
