Ambassador of Cuba to South Africa highlights legacy of historic leader of the Cuban Revolution in radio interview

Pretoria, Agosto 13, 2019.- As part of the tribute to Commander in Chief Fidel Castro on the occasion of the 93rd anniversary of his birth, the important South African radio station ”Channel Africa” of regional scope, dedicated, this August 13, a special program to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution.

The 40 minute-long program called Future Africa, presented an interview to Ambassador of Cuba to South Africa Rodolfo Benítez Verson, who addressed the historical relevance of Fidel Castro for the Cuban people and the world, as well as his concepts about Cuba-Africa relations and especially with South Africa. The Cuban Ambassador highlighted the special friendship between Fidel Castro and Nelson Mandela and Cuba’s internationalist contribution to the defeat of the Apartheid regime, and in support of the decolonization and independence of many African countries.

The interview also served to address the main achievements and perspectives of the bilateral relations between Cuba and South Africa, which are turning their 25th anniversary, including other topics related to the current situation of Cuba and Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as the escalation of hostility and the tightening of the blockade against the island by the government of the United States.

In his final words, the Ambassador thanked the many expressions of solidarity and support for the Cuban Revolution made by the South African government, the groups of solidarity, the political and union organizations and the South African people in general.
