Pretoria, 7 August 2019.- The Ambassador of Cuba to South Africa, Rodolfo Benítez Verson, held a working meeting with the President of the Pan African Parliament (PAP) H.E. Mr. Roger Nkodo Dang in the headquarters of that important continental body, in Midrand, a locality in South Africa.
Both representatives, exchanged on the work carried out by that Parliament, which is one of the 9 bodies of the African Union and explored ways to continue to strengthen the relations of cooperation between the PAP and the National People’s Power Assembly of Cuba.
In that context, the Cuban Ambassador reiterated the invitation extended by the Speaker of the Cuban Parliament, Esteban Lazo Hernández, to make an official visit to Cuba, which was accepted by Mr. Nkodo Dang in the meeting.
The Cuban Ambassador also offered updated information on the Cuban reality, including the intensive legislative work in which the Cuban Parliament is immersed after the passing of the country’s new Constitution. Likewise, he informed on the more and more hostile policy and reinforced blockade imposed by the government of the United States.
For its part, President Nkodo Dang highlighted the historic ties and strong bonds of friendship between Cuba and the African countries and emphasized that the Pan African Parliament will always be a second home for Cubans since the peoples of the continent will be forever thankful for the heroic internationalist help given by Cuba in the battles for the liberation and independence of the African peoples and the elimination of the Apartheid regime.
Today, the Pan African parliament is composed of 229 members who represent the parliaments of the 52 countries in the continent.
