Nicosia, Cyprus - The Cuban Ambassador to Cyprus, Angel Gustavo Suarez Cordero, held on the evening of November 27, 2024, a meeting with young people of the Pan-Cypriot Federation of Labour (PEO) in the framework of a ‘Cuban Night’ held at the cultural centre ‘Mikri Arktos’ in Nicosia.
During his speech, which dealt with the theme ‘Work and Youth in the Island of the Revolution’, the Cuban diplomat made a detailed analysis of the complex situation that Cuba is currently going through, with special emphasis on the severe effects caused by the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed against the island, aggravated by the unjustified inclusion of Cuba in the spurious list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.
The Ambassador explained to the young people present the efforts made by the Cuban government to update its economic and social model, despite the difficulties derived from the unilateral coercive measures. He also addressed the issue of the constant media war against Cuba in social networks and the press, aimed at distorting the reality of the country and discrediting the achievements of the Revolution. The Cuban diplomat thanked the militant solidarity of the Cypriot people, who in difficult conditions and despite the geographical distance have organised the shipment of two containers with aid for the Juan Manuel Marquéz Pediatric Teaching Hospital and are working to send another during the first quarter of 2025.
The exchange, which took place in an atmosphere of cordiality and frank dialogue, allowed the young Cypriots to get to know first hand the Cuban reality and asked various questions about daily life on the island, especially in relation to job opportunities and professional development for young people.
The evening concluded with a musical performance by the group Tanglatino, who delighted those present with a varied repertoire of Cuban and Latin American music. The event was organised by the PEO Nicosia Youth Worker's Office, demonstrating once again the strong ties of friendship between the peoples of Cuba and Cyprus (EmbaCuba Cyprus).
