Ambassador of Cuba to the United States visits Tampa Bay Area

On May 11- 14, the Ambassador of Cuba to the United States, José R Cabañas Rodríguez, paid a working visit in the Tampa Bay Area, which included activities in the cities of Saint Petersburg and Tampa, in the State of Florida. 

 

A special moment in the program of activities was the tribute paid to Cuba´s National Hero, José Martí, in the park that bears his name in Ybor City, located on the terrain previously occupied by the house of the Pedroso family of Cuban origin, where the Apostle stayed during his visits to this city.  

 

In this tribute attended by Congresswoman Kathy Castor, and by Cuban Americans and other local representatives, the Cuban diplomat thanked the friends of Cuba who keep the legacy of José Martí alive in this area and who are currently working on a project to revitalize this park. 

 

During his stay, the Cuban diplomat also exchanged with the Mayor of Saint Petersburg, Rick Kriseman, who participated with him in the events organized to welcome the Cuban visitor held in the Salvador Dalí Museum and the Raymond James Theatre. 

 

The Cuban Ambassador also met with leaders and members of the USF College of Marine Science and with other prominent representatives of the local scientific community with whom he exchanged on the prospects of collaboration in this field. 

 

This was an auspicious occasion to visit other places of interest and to exchange with members of the Cuban community and with representatives of other sectors, as well as to experience the historic ties that unite Tampa and Saint Petersburg with Cuba and the support offered from these cities to the new framework of bilateral relations with the United States. 

 

Throughout the visit, the Cuban Ambassador was accompanied by his wife Edilia González and the First Secretary of the Embassy of Cuba, Joel Lago Oliva.
