On 22 November, the Cuban Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Ismara Mercedes Vargas Walter, visited the city of Birmingham to participate in a day of activities that strengthened the ties of friendship and solidarity between the two nations.
During her stay, the Ambassador held a cordial meeting with the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, in which opportunities for collaboration between the city and Cuba were discussed, as well as the mutual interest in promoting cultural, educational and commercial exchanges. This dialogue reaffirms the shared values of cooperation and respect that characterise the relations between Cuba and the local communities in the UK.
Afterwards, the Ambassador participated in an event of solidarity with Cuba, organised by local groups that maintain a historic relationship of support for the island. During her speech, she highlighted the challenges Cuba faces due to the tightening of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States, and expressed her deep gratitude for the solidarity of friends of Cuba in Birmingham and the rest of the country.
The event served as a space to strengthen ties between attendees and reinforce the commitment to common causes of justice and international equity. The Ambassador stressed that solidarity not only strengthens Cuba, but also contributes to building a more inclusive and multipolar world.
The activities in Birmingham reflect the spirit of friendship that unites Cuba and the United Kingdom, and the Cuban Embassy thanks all the organisers and participants who made this meeting possible.
