The Amir of Qatar Receives Cuba's Special Envoy on the Occasion of the Passing of the Father Amir

 

Doha, July 15, 2026 – Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba, Dr. Eduardo Martínez Díaz, was received on Wednesday at Lusail Palace by His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, after arriving in Doha to participate in the funeral ceremonies of His Highness the Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, a figure closely associated over recent decades with the strengthening of the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Cuba and Qatar.

During the meeting, the Cuban leader conveyed to the Qatari Head of State the heartfelt condolences of the people and Government of Cuba and highlighted the historic ties of friendship, respect and cooperation that unite both countries and peoples. He also recalled the friendship between the Father Amir and the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.

For his part, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani expressed his deep appreciation for Cuba's gesture, describing it as highly meaningful, and requested that his fraternal greetings and gratitude be conveyed to the Leader of the Cuban Revolution, General of the Army Raúl Castro Ruz, and to the President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

Earlier, the Cuban Deputy Prime Minister held an exchange with His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, to whom he conveyed Cuba's condolences and solidarity with the Qatari people during this time of mourning for the nation.

Following the passing of His Highness the Father Amir, the State of Qatar declared four days of national mourning, during which Doha received delegations and senior officials from numerous countries and international organizations who came to pay their respects and offer condolences to the leadership and people of Qatar.
