Pretoria, 25 February 2026.- The head of the International Relations Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Emilio Lozada García, held two virtual meetings with the secretary general of the African National Congress (ANC), Fikile Mbalula and with General Secretary of the South African Communist Party (SACP), Solly Mapaila.
Lozada thanked both organizations for their expressions of solidarity in response to Donald Trump's executive order imposing sanctions on any country that sends fuel to Cuba. In these difficult times, the support of friends is even more necessary than ever, and the Cuban people are grateful to know that they are not alone in this struggle, he said.
Both South African leaders reiterated once again their firm support for the Cuban Revolution in the face of continued and intensified aggression by the US imperialism, especially following the recent measures adopted by Donald Trump's administration, which seek only to further suffocate the island's economy and starve the Cuban people.
South African leaders referred to the history that unites Cuba and South Africa and emphasized the need for our peoples to remain united in times of aggression and unilateralism.
These meetings reaffirm the solid and historic ties that exist between the Cuban and South African peoples, united by their tradition of struggle and opposition to colonialism.
