ANC reaffirms its historic solidarity with Cuba

Pretoria, February 18, 2026.- The Deputy Secretary General of the African National Congress (ANC), Nomvula Mokonyane, reiterated the party's solidarity with the government and people of Cuba in the face of renewed sanctions against the island and the US oil blockade.

During a fruitful exchange with Cuban Ambassador Fakri Rodríguez Pinelo, Mokonyane stressed that “Cuba is never out of our lips and our ideas,” as an expression of continued solidarity with the Revolution and the Cuban people.

The ambassador provided an update on the difficult situation our country is going through as a result of the relentless aggression of the Trump administration, which seeks to suffocate the people with the aim of breaking the historic position of resistance of the Cubans. He also conveyed his gratitude for the expressions of support received from South Africa, in particular the message of solidarity from President Cyril Ramaphosa during his State of the Nation Address.

At the meeting, they also discussed how to strengthen inter-party relations between the ANC and the PCC, as well as bilateral cooperation.

Also participating were Second Secretary Bryan Betancourt Brito and Diplomatic Attaché Lauren Luis Acosta on the Cuban side, and Khulekani Skosana Mondli, an official from the party's International Relations Committee, on the South African side.
