ANC reaffirms solidarity with Cuba

Pretoria, January 30, 2026.– The African National Congress (ANC) issued a strong statement of solidarity with Cuba following the publication of the Presidential Memorandum by the Donald Trump administration threatening a total blockade of all fuel supplies to the island.

In a statement shared on social media, the ANC strongly condemns the imposition of this blockade and describes the measure as a direct assault on the Cuban people, a continuation of decades of deliberate economic sabotage and strangulation imposed through an unjust and unilateral blockade.

The party, as an organization committed to prosperity, thriving economies of the Global South, and the stability of Caribbean nations calls for the immediate lifting of the fuel blockade and the trade embargo that not only harms Cuba but also affects the entire region. They call upon the progressive forces and countries of the world, committed to progressive internationalism, peace, and prosperity, to join the ANC in solidarity against imperialist and colonialist aggression and to take further concrete actions in solidarity with Cuba.
