The Association of the Friends of Cuba expresses its strongest rejection and protest against the Helms-Burton Act, whose chapter III has begun to be applied by the US government, a decision that constitutes a clear violation of all the norms and precepts of the law and international standards and the principles of the Charter of the United Nations Organization.
The Cuban Government clearly expressed its willingness to find a solution to the issue of compensation, through a civilized dialogue based on the respect and sovereign equality of States, reaffirmed on December 24, 1996, when Law No.80 was passed, Law of Reaffirmation of Cuban Dignity and Sovereignty, after declaring the Helms-Burton Law unlawful, unenforceable and without any legal value or effect in the territory of Cuba, which the US Government intends to disregard it.
Those measures that seek to destroy the Cuban Revolution mean an upsurge of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against the island and constitutes the main obstacle to its development.
The Association of the Friends of Cuba resolutely condemns all the restrictive measures imposed against Cuba by successive US governments and demands the annulment of the Helms-Burton Act.
