The Australian solidarity movement with Cuba reaffirms its support for the Cuban people, condemns the U.S. blockade, and denounces the U.S. government’s latest escalation against Cuba

Canberra, 20 April 2026. Delegates from various branches of the Australian Friendship Movement with Cuba, including the Australia-Cuba Friendship Society (ACFS), gathered this weekend (18-19 April) in Canberra to hold the 41st National Consultation.

During two intense days of debates, reports, and planning, participants reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to the Cuban people and demanded an immediate end to the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States.

The meeting, which brought together representatives from the Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Newcastle, Albury, and Canberra branches, served to evaluate activities carried out over the past year, share successful experiences, and coordinate new initiatives of solidarity with Cuba. Key topics included:

  • Rejection of the escalation of the U.S. blockade and its severe humanitarian impacts on the Cuban population, particularly in the energy sector and daily life.
  • The need to strengthen information campaigns in Australia regarding the reality in Cuba and the consequences of the economic blockade.
  • Support for international humanitarian aid initiatives and the shipment of supplies to the Cuban people.
  • The coordination of future actions, including public mobilizations and educational activities.

During the event, attended by the Cuban Ambassador to Australia, Gilma Moreira Lino, accompanied by members of the Cuban diplomatic mission, attendees were updated on the situation in our country, an assessment was made of the actions carried out by the Mission, and discussions took place regarding future activities in support of Cuba.

Gratitude was reiterated to the solidarity movement with Cuba in Australia for its support of the Cuban people and for its constant condemnation of the illegal U.S. blockade and the recent escalation by the U.S. against Cuba.

A message of greeting was shared with the gathering from Fernando González, Hero of the Republic of Cuba and president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), who expressed his gratitude for the Australian solidarity movement’s constant support for our country.

The participants adopted a Final Declaration in which they reaffirm their support for the Cuban Revolution, denounce the blockade as a violation of human rights, and call on the Australian government and the international community to raise their voices against this unjust and obsolete policy.
