An event to commemorate the 44th anniversary of the creation of a growing relationship between Cuba and CARICOM was held this past Friday in Belize City. During his speech, Belize City Mayor Darrell Bradley, spoke about Cuba’s contribution to the Caribbean nations, specifically Belize.
“I, myself know of very close friends who have studied in CUBA. I know right now of people in our hospitals that are benefiting from the care given to them by Cuban trained doctors. I know of the partnerships with the municipalities that we have engaged with Cuban technical assistance so that the characteristics of your friendships are very direct and personal and so the city council thought that in a simple way we could express a declaration and it says “be known before almighty God and man that upon the occasion of the commemoration of Cuba CARICOM day in Belize City we the Mayor and Councilors of the Belize City Council in a gesture of good will and in gratitude for the friendship and many acts of support in the areas of education, art, culture, medicine, agriculture and development received from the government and people of Cuba an in further appreciation for the inspirational life and tremendous an indelible contribution to the world made by President Fidel Castro expressed and declared by this instrument our continued appreciation for and esteem toward the Cuban government and people and our desire to deepen our cooperation understanding and friendship. Given this 16th day of December 2016 under my hand.”
Cuba’s former leader, Fidel Castro recently passed away and Friday’s event was also a tribute to his legacy.
