Belize in solidarity with Cuba in the face of energy emergency

Belmopan, Oct 21 (Prensa Latina).- The government of Belize today expressed solidarity with Cuba in the face of the energy contingency that affected that country and linked that situation with the limitations of the island as a result of the hostile policy of the United States.

Through a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the authorities of Belmopan regretted that since October 18 the Antillean nation has been facing massive blackouts throughout its territory.

He referred to the impact of the economic, financial and commercial blockade that the United States maintains on Cuba, as it prevents guaranteeing an adequate and stable supply of fuels.

He also rejected the inclusion of the island country in the list of state sponsors of terrorism.

Since the 18th, Cuba entered the contingency phase due to a total disconnection of the National Electro-Energy System (SEN) that forced to maintain in operation only the activities of the basic sectors.

Havana, the capital, restored energy service throughout its territory on the afternoon of October 21 and the provincial government is still working to fix some breakdowns that still persist in the local supply network.

Several provinces of Cuba are still in the dark, although the West, Center and East of the nation have microsystems for the generation of the service and this Monday the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant, its largest and most efficient unitary block, synchronized the SEN to the Sen.

The lack of fuel due to U.S. pressure against Cuba is the main cause of electricity disruption in that country, the newspaper Granma said on Monday, recalling that fuel shortages represent the main problem forced by the economic, commercial and financial siege imposed by Washington.
