Belizean Foreign Minister receives Cuban ambassador.

Belmopan, January 29, 2024.- The ambassador of Cuba, María Caridad Balaguer, was received by the Honorable Francis Fonseca, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Belize, with whom she exchanged about issues of bilateral interest.

Cuba and Belize enjoy cooperation in the spheres of health, sports and the environment and steps are being taken to strengthen them in other spheres. Both countries established diplomatic relations in 1995, which have been characterized by a climate of respect and mutual support. In April 2022, the Prime Minister of Belize, John Briceño, made an official visit to Cuba, an occasion in which bilateral agreements were signed in the field of health and climate change, and in February 2023, President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermúdez made an official visit to Belize, where the historic ties of friendship and cooperation between both countries were ratified as a result a bilateral cooperation agreement in the field of culture and a Memorandum of Understanding on migration alerts were signed.

Minister Fonseca ratified Belize's position in favor of lifting the United States blockade against Cuba and against the inclusion of Cuba on the list of state sponsors of terrorism, which hinder the development and well-being of the Cuban people. (EmbacubaBelice).
