BioCubaPharma delegation fulfills successful visit to Australia

A delegation of BioCubaFarma chaired by Dr. Mayda Mauri Pérez, Vice President of this Business Group, is visiting Australia with the aim of promoting the development of business with this country, in which Biotechnology is considered, as in Cuba, a strategic sector for the development of the nation.

The delegation also includes Dr. Agustín Lage Dávila, BioCubaPharma Presidency Scientific Advisor , Dr. Mario Pablo Estrada García, Director of Agricultural Research at the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology , Dr. Rafael Gámez Menéndez, National  Center of Scientific Investigations Commercial Director  and José Manuel Galego Montano, Ambassador of Cuba in Australia.

The main results highlight the intention of the Australian Ministry of Health to sign a Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of a Binational Australia-Cuba Working Group for cooperation on Biotechnology.

This Binational Working Group will be a mechanism to identify projects of mutual interest in the field of biomedicine and promote its development to the introduction into the public health system of both countries. The attraction of Australian capital as foreign investment into Cuba will also be a priority of BioCubaFarma in the Working Group.

In Canberra, capital of Australia, the delegation was received by the Honorable Minister for Aged Care and Indigenous Health, Ken Wyatt, as well as by the Minister for Commerce, Innovation and Technology, Phillipe Dalidakis, in the State of Victoria

The Cuban delegation has also promoted the products and projects developed by Cuban biotechnology in the agricultural sphere. Of special interest has been the vaccine against the tick of cattle, which will be tested in the coming months. If the results are positive, this vaccine would be exported to Australia, which has an approximate population of 26 million cows.

To round off the visit, the delegation will participate in the VIP Event 2018 (Innovation Program in Victoria), in which Dr. Agustín Lage Dávila will delivered a conference on the development of Biotechnology in Cuba, before an audience with a broad participation of entrepreneurs, academics and authorities of the biotechnology sector from more than 50 countries.
