In the early hours of today March 29, 2020, a brigade of the International Contingent of Doctors Specialized in Disaster Situations and Serious Epidemics "Henry Reeve" was received at Dominica Douglas-Charles International Airport. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and Diaspora Relations, Dr. Kenneth Darroux, the Minister of Health, Welfare and New Investment in Health, Dr. Irving McIntyre and the Ambassador of Cuba, Ulises Arranz Fernández, came to receives them to plane's ladder. The 35 members of the contingent brigade "Henry Reeve" join to work of facing the Coronavirus COVID 19 that is being carried out in Dominica.
The presence of these professionals in the Cuban health sector responds to a request made by the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, the Honorable Roosevelt Skerrit, to the President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Diaz Canel Bermudez, in recent days.
At the welcoming ceremony at the international airport, the Minister of Health welcomed the group and expressed his gratitude for their presence in the country and for helping them fight the pandemic. He also thanked Dra. Isolina López, Chief of the Health Collaborators Brigade in Dominica, the work carried out by the members of that Brigade in the fight against COVID - 19 and in health care for the dominican people. For his part, the Foreign Minister said he was excited by the solidarity gesture of the Cuban government and people, whom he said he knew well for having studied in Cuba and condemned the unjust economic, financial and commercial blockade of the US government. against a nation that gives love and solidarity.
The Cuban Ambassador gave a brief account of the history of the "Henry Reeve" contingent, created by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, recalling several of the countries where they had been present to deal with the effects of catastrophes or epidemics, like was in Dominica after of the tropical storm Erika and the hurricane Maria.
