UNITED KINGDOM, 23 February, 2017. - The Medal for the 55th Anniversary of the Establishment of the National Union of Education, Science and Sports Workers (SNTECD, by its Spanish initials), awarded in Pedagogy 2017 to the National Union of Teachers (NUT), was presented to its Secretary General, Kevin Courtney, during the meeting of its national executive.

The Ambassador to Cuba, Teresita Vicente Sotolongo, stated that the medal of the Cuban union had its origin in the campaign carried out in Cuba in 1961 for eradicating illiteracy.

The medal, which is granted as a incentive to union leaders with merits in the trade union activity, as well as to organizations, national and foreign personalities and groups from our sector that have an exceptional path with oustanding results in the educational, scientific and sports area,  and it was granted to NUT because they have worked for over 25 years for achieving the unity of education workers between the American continent and the United Kingdom, contributing to promote a consolidated trade union action that has allowed a greater identification with other similar trade unions.
