Detroit, April 9, 2026 – The Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Cuba in Washington, D.C., Ambassador Tanieris Dieguez, held a meaningful meeting with various sectors in Michigan during her visit to Detroit, in the framework of the 2026 National Convention of the National Lawyers Guild (NLG).
The meeting was organized by Michigan-based Cuban resident Félix Sharpe Caballero and his El Pan Project. During the event, Reverend Horace Sheffield III presented the Cuban diplomat with a letter signed by his daughter, Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield, welcoming her to the city.
The exchange was attended by Democratic Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, representative of the state of Michigan; state and local authorities; members of solidarity groups with Cuba; representatives of the Detroit chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA); as well as figures from Michigan’s cultural sector, media, and religious community.
The event provided a valuable opportunity for dialogue and exchange, highlighting joint efforts to strengthen mutual understanding between the peoples of Cuba and the United States, with particular emphasis on cultural exchange, cooperation, and the bonds of friendship and solidarity between both nations.
