Pretoria, August 13, 2020.- Today, the day you would have turned 94, we continue to celebrate and commemorate your lifetime.
The whole world knows Cuba for its generosity, solidarity and internationalism. That is because of the vision that Commander Fidel had of the world. In Fidel's eyes and mind, a better world was possible, and today we continue to believe that this world that Fidel dreamed of is truly possible.
The Cuban medical brigades that are fulfilling missions in different parts of the world show the solidarity and generosity of Cuba. As Cubans say,” We do not share what is left over, we share what we have" The Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade's nomination for the Nobel Prize is a mark of the service to the humanity and the internationalism that Cuba shows every time there is a disaster in the world.
Many of us are professionals for the solidarity of Cuba. We are doctors, teachers, engineers, athletes among others because Fidel and Cuba opened their hearts and doors of its universities to accommodate thousands of students from different parts of the world.
More than a thousand South Africans have graduated in Cuba and more than a thousand others are fulfilling their studies. From the bottom of our hearts, we are grateful.
I was fortunate to study in Cuba during Fidel's time to be present during many of his speeches in Havana and Santa Clara, each time one came out inspired to give himself to humanity to improve the world.
The contribution of Cuba to the liberation of South Africa in the battle of Cuito Cuanavale is one of the very historical events in the relationship of the two countries and people.
Cuba formed us, not just as professionals, but as internationalists serving humanity. We are proud to be Cubans born in South Africa, and we are always in solidarity with Cuba and we continue to fight for the better world in which he dreamed Fidel it can become possible.
