Washington, June 25, 2023.- A march and rally in front of the White House today concludes a week of solidarity with Cuba that has been expressed in more than 30 cities in the United States and other parts of the world.
Take Cuba off the List of State sponsors of terror is the name of the campaign behind this new wave of questioning of the policies of the current administration of Democrat Joe Biden towards the island of Cuba.
Representatives of more than a hundred solidarity organisations "will shout out loud, so that Biden hears it, that Cuba be taken off the list of terrorist countries, that the blockade be lifted and bridges of love be built", activist Carlos Lazo, who travelled from Seattle, told Prensa Latina.
We are counting on it being a well attended day, it will be a really beautiful event," said Professor Lazo, coordinator of the Bridges of Love movement.
Elena Freyre, president of the Alianza Martiana Coalition, came from Miami, and for her it is time for the president "to keep his promises".
"We are not going to stop until he complies, until he ends the 243 additional sanctions that (Donald) Trump imposed" during his administration (2017-2021), she said.
They didn't tell me, Biden stood up and said without hesitation that if he was elected president those sanctions would be lifted and that he would immediately reverse Trump's policies towards Cuba with a return to the era of Barack Obama (2009-2017), Freyre recalled.
Also arriving in Washington, DC, but from New York, was the young medical graduate Miledys Guzman, a Latina who confessed to having fallen in love with Cuba during her recent visit to the Caribbean nation.
Of Dominican origin, Miledys is confident in this "feeling of unity" that is perceived around the common objective of lifting the unilateral siege that for more than six decades has been trying to suffocate Cubans.
Guzman was among the participants last night at an event organised by the DC Metro Coalition, where "I had a very spiritual experience," she said.
People of different ages, using various forms of music and prayer, brought their message for Cuba to the heart, I am very moved," he said.
Addressing those present, the second head of the Cuban Mission in the United States, Alejandro Pila, thanked the many expressions of solidarity and reiterated that the designation of his country as an alleged state sponsor of terrorism is illegal and immoral.
The diplomat argued that Cuba's role in the struggle for social justice and in medical collaboration extended to the most dissimilar corners of the world.
A criterion shared by the audience, who time and again exclaimed at different times "Cuba yes, blockade no".
The cultural segment was provided by the duo Afrodélica and the performer Luci Murphy, a woman who feels Cuba to be her second homeland.
