A CAMPAIGN TOOK PLACE IN CYPRUS IN FAVOR OF THE CUBAN PIONEERS AFFECTED BY THE HURRICANE IRMA.

Cyprus, December 20, 2017. – Faneromenis Square, located in the old Nicosia, is where the central act commemorating the Christmas Campaign of solidarity took place in favor of the Cuban pioneers who were harmed by the passage of the devastating hurricane Irma through Cuba.

The aforementioned activity, which was attended by the General Secretary of the Progressive Party of the Working People of Cyprus (AKEL), Andros Kyprianou, the Ambassador of Cuba, Omar Leyva Rafull, among other senior youth and union leaders, constituted an ideal framework so that through songs, paintings, recreational games and dances, the children would enjoy the evening.

This non-profit Christmas campaign has been carried out every year, and its main objectives have been to support noble causes, so this time the Cuban children were chosen. According to the General Secretary of the Central Council of the Youth Organization of Democratic Unity (EDON), Christos Christofias, they were also affected from the severe damage caused by Hurricane Irma in its passage through Cuba, which unleashed its fury against nearly 400 school centers, while recognizing the actions of solidarity on an international scale that have taken place in the Greater Antilles, despite the ironclad blockade of the United States of America.
