Georgetown, May 12. The foreign ministers of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) countries reiterated their condemnation to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba and called for its lifting.
The denunciation of the unilateral measure with which the United States has been lobbying Cuba to abdicate its revolutionary process and its socialist development system took place within the context of the 23rd Meeting of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations (Cofcor) of the Caricom.
At the meeting held virtually on Thursday and Friday last week, the Cofcor paid tribute to the Government and the Cuban people for providing public health personnel to increase the region's limited capacity to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic, despite the country's own challenges, worsened by the United States measures.
The foreign ministers called for an immediate and unconditional lifting of the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba, reported the newspaper Caricom Today, and highlights the agenda discussed by the foreign ministers at the meeting, chaired by Claude Joseph, Haiti's foreign minister and minister of worship.
Among other issues, they discussed several challenges the Community is facing, aggravated by the negative impact of the Covid-19.
They stressed the role of the Cofcor and Caricom as the forum in which the foreign ministers of the region have the opportunity to reflect and jointly discuss regional, hemispheric and international issues of importance to the Community, and to agree on coordinated foreign affairs and political positions.
