Castro-Smirnov visits the United Kingdom in the centenary year of historic leader Fidel Castro

At the Cuban Embassy in the United Kingdom, we welcomed Dr. Fidel Antonio Castro Smirnov, who is visiting the country at the invitation of the Campaign for Solidarity with Cuba (CSC), where he will also participate in a scientific and academic programme that includes exchanges with British universities.

The meeting, marked by an atmosphere of warmth and emotion, provided an opportunity for deep reflection with the diplomatic mission, addressing essential issues that link the history, present and future of the Cuban nation.

This visit takes on special significance in the centenary year of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, in which context Dr Castro Smirnov highlighted the extraordinary resilience of his people and the capacity for resilience of the national biotechnology sector.

He stressed that, despite constant threats and the criminal blockade imposed by the United States, Cuban scientists continue to defend the country's sovereignty through innovation, research and development, contributing decisively to the well-being of the people.

In this commemorative setting, his message was a call for unity, recalling that the best way to honour the legacy of the Commander-in-Chief and the Cuban Revolution is through constant work, social commitment, science and daily dedication in every area of responsibility.
