Categorical rejection of unfounded allegations of US election interference

At the end of July, articles in The Miami Herald and other articles by the McClatchy press organisation, to which the newspaper belongs, began a new slanderous campaign against Cuba, citing anonymous intelligence sources to back up their accusations, which is the usual practice of this journalistic organisation and its editors when lies are the basis of their reports.

At the end of July, articles in The Miami Herald newspaper and others from the McClatchy press organisation, to which the newspaper belongs, began a new slanderous campaign against Cuba, citing anonymous intelligence sources to back up the accusation, a common practice to which this journalistic organisation and its editors are accustomed when lies are the basis of the report.

The accusation is that Cuba is carrying out efforts to influence local electoral campaigns in the state of Florida in the United States.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejects the accusation in the strongest terms. It also deplores the failure of the US government, its State Department and its intelligence agencies to disqualify the direct reference to alleged government agencies on whose authority these slanderous articles appear to rest.

The US government cannot cite any evidence or indications, because they do not exist, that Cuba has interfered or has proposed to interfere in its electoral processes, or that it is favouring any politician in the state of Florida or any other state in that country. Any reference to this is absolutely mendacious.

If this were not a completely unfounded allegation on such a serious issue, the statement would be astonishing, for it could be interpreted as the US government doing a 180-degree turn and for the first time in more than a century considering it inappropriate to interfere in the electoral processes of other countries.  It is not made clear in any of the articles, however, whether the US government intends to abandon a practice that has long been an illegitimate and unacceptable feature of US foreign policy.
