Dublin, January 27, 2023. Invited by the Cuban Embassy, in coordination with the Association of Cuban Residents in Ireland, last night, Irish and Cubans celebrated the 170th anniversary of the birth of the Apostle of Cuban independence, José Martí Pérez. The emotional day was attended by the Minister of State for Housing and Electoral Reform of Ireland, deputy for the Green Party, Malcolm Noonam, friends of the solidarity movement and resident Cubans, as well as Irish children descending from the latter, who expressed their admiration and respect for the most universal of all Cubans.
Images about the life and literary work of the Apostle were projected, highlighting among them “Abdala”, “The Golden Age”, “Los Versos Sencillos”, among others. Likewise, the example that "El Maestro" represented for the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution was highlighted, "Fidel Castro, who in his history alleged "History will Absolve Me" described him as the intellectual author of the assault on the Moncada Barracks "
The Cuban ambassador, Bernardo Guanche Hernández, when speaking, referred to the extraordinary literary work of José Martí and his links with Ireland, which includes the publication of his chronicle on the conference given by the renowned Irish writer, young at the time, Oscar Wilde, in 1882, at the “Chickering Hall” theater in New York and of which Martí was a witness.
To the sound of the Simple Verses of the Apostle, expressed with the world-renowned song "La Guantanamera", those present highlighted the need for the thought and example of José Martí to be current and present for all the children of Cuba.
