Roseau, January 25, 2020. An emotional patriotic act for the 167th anniversary of the birth of José Julian Martí Pérez, was held at the headquarters of the Embassy of Cuba in Dominica, on the morning of this Saturday, January 25, 2020. In the commemorative act of the birth of the National Hero of Cuba, on January 28, 1853, was attended by officials of the Embassy, the brigade of health cuban collaborators, a representation of cubans residing in Dominica and solidarity with Cuba; in addition to the officials of the Venezuelan Embassy.
Dr. Idelmys Alarcón spoke on behalf of the cuban collaborators. She recounted Marti's life and work and said how his legacy was present in the work they do every day. She condemned the bandit acts recently perpetrated against several busts of Martí in Havana and expressed her satisfaction that those responsible have been arrested and the link between them and counterrevolutionary elements based in Miami will be demonstrated. She reiterated the commitment of all collaborators to continue their work in Dominica for as long as requested.
Severin Mckenzie spoke in the name of solidarity with Cuba, who is also President of the "Dominican Business Forum". He said he felt he spoke on behalf of the dominicans who have much to thank Cuba for the help they have always given to their people, and who they always accompany in their struggle for sovereignty independence and for development. The Ambassador of Venezuela, José Durabio Moros, expressed the unshakable solidarity of Venezuela with the government and people of Cuba. He recalled passages of the beautiful relationship between Fidel and Chavez and how that relationship became the excellent relationships that exist today. He said he felt deeply Martian, of whom he said, had been the first cuban Bolivarian.
Finally, the Ambassador of Cuba, Ulises Arranz, evoked the figure of Martí in these moments when some powerful people want to divide and attack us. In that sense he recalled the permanent intentions of the US government. to divide the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean and the attacks on the busts of Marti in Havana. He said Martí taught us the way of unity and principles to defend ourselves and win; He taught us to have "plan against plan." He referred how cuban health collaborators in Dominica evoked Marti with their daily work, curing diseases and saving lives; sowing the love and prestige that cannot stain any media campaign of the enemies of Cuba.
