Commemoration ceremony in honour of Fidel Castro at the Embassy of Cuba in Australia

Dr Raices

Canberra, 28th of November 2017. In the framework of a conference on Biotechnology given at the Cuban Embassy in Australia by the Cuban scientist and researcher Manuel Raíces, the figure of Commander Fidel Castro and his extraordinary contribution to Cuba's scientific and technological development was paid tribute to.

Dr. Raíces, recognized specialist of the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB), who is realizing a visit to Australia by invitation of the government, reminded those present that one of the victorious battles carried out by Fidel was the investment of resources and wills for the development of science and innovation in the Greater Antilles. In recent years, Cuba has achieved transcendent results in the sector, with the production of state-of-the-art drugs against hepatitis, cancer and diabetes.

This tribute to the historic leader adds to the many activities that have been held throughout the year in Australia in his honor, of which one of the most notable ones was the presentation, on five occasions, of the photographic exhibition Fidel es Fidel in the cities of Perth, Adelaide, Sydney, Canberra and Albury.
