Cape Town, February 11, 2026. Today marked the start of activities commemorating the centenary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz in the South African parliamentary capital.
Friends of Cuba, members of FOCUS, parliamentarians from the ANC and other progressive parties gathered at the Long March to Freedom to reaffirm their unwavering solidarity with Cuba and the Revolution.
Cuban Ambassador Fakri Rodríguez Pinelo referred to the enormous legacy left to us by Commander Fidel, which we must defend tooth and nail, above all to pass it on to new generations.
In this park there is a statue of Nelson Mandela, accompanied by many others of African and international leaders who contributed to the struggles for liberation in southern Africa, including one of Commander Fidel Castro, architect of Cuba's presence in Africa.
The event also takes place on a historic day, as it commemorates the 36th anniversary of Mandela's release from prison after 27 years of incarceration.
