Concludes in South Africa Joint Consultative Mechanism Cuba - South Africa 2019

Pretoria, 5 September 2019.- Deputy Minister First of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Marcelino Medina González, and Alvin Botes, South African Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, held this Thursday morning the XV Inter-Chancery Political Consultation between both countries, on the occasion of the visit of the Cuban vice-minister to the African continent.  

During the friendly meeting, both parties highlighted the excellent state of bilateral relations and expressed the will to work together of strengthening political dialogue, cooperation and Exchange in areas of common interest.  They emphasized the positive development of ties between Cuba and South Africa, who will celebrate this year the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. They spoke also of matters of the regional and international agendas.  

The Cuban part acknowledged South Africa’s historical and continuous support the different regional and multilateral fora in the struggle to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the U.S. against Cuba, as well as the clear rejection of the application of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act.

The South African foreign Deputy Minister expressed appreciation, on behalf of his nation’s people and his own, for Cuba’s invaluable support in Africa’s liberation struggles, especially against the Apartheid regime. He also congratulated the good state of bilateral relations between both countries in mutual benefit. (Cubaminrex)
