Congratulations Freedom Park in your 20 Anniversary!

Pretoria, June 1st, 2020.- Today we celebrate the 20th anniversary of Freedom Park. This beloved and wonderful institution offers a unique opportunity to appreciate the invaluable historical and cultural heritage of South Africa and is, at the same time, an important national and international exhibition center in defense of unity, humanity and freedom.

Throughout the year, Freedom Park develops a wide range of activities in which, in addition to promoting knowledge of South African history, its heroes, leaders and diverse cultural traditions, events are held that encourage reflection on historical events, liberation movements and just causes from anywhere in the world.

For Cuba, Freedom Park is a sacred site and a must-see for every Cuban who arrives in South Africa. We are deeply proud that, as part of its impressive Wall of Names, one of the treasures of the Park, the names of 2,289 Cuban martyrs who sacrificed their lives on African soil, fighting for the independence and sovereignty of many countries of the continent, are carved there forever. To those names was added that of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, as a beautiful symbol of brotherhood between Cuba and South Africa.

Thank you very much friends of Freedom Park for promoting the values of freedom, solidarity and friendship, for defending and teaching the new generations the legacy of the South African heroes, for treasuring with such sensitivity an important part of the history of Cuba and for always welcoming each one of the Cubans who visit them with such professionalism and affection.

As the brothers and sisters of the Park always remind us, Freedom Park is also our home, and as Cubans, we are very proud to be an inseparable part of that family.
